Introduction: The Meta Has Shifted
For the last two months, the game was dominated by the DBS shotgun and the UMP45. It was annoying, right? You rush a house, and Boom-Boom, you are dead. Well, the developers have finally shaken things up with the 4.2 Primewood Genesis Patch.
I have spent 10 hours testing the new gun stats in the Training Grounds and Classic Matches. The results are shocking. Some of your favorite guns are now useless, and a forgotten weapon is now the most powerful item in the game. Let's dive deep.
1. The Rise of the Crossbow (Tactical Buff)
Yes, you read that right. The Crossbow is no longer a meme weapon. In the 4.2 Update, Krafton wants us to play stealthily in the new forests.
The Exploding Bolt Attachment:
You can now find a "Gunpowder Tip" attachment for the Crossbow in the "Tree of Life" loot crates. When you equip this, your bolts explode on impact.
Damage: It deals area damage. If an enemy is hiding behind a tree or a rock, you don't need a direct hit. Just shoot near their feet, and they take 40-50 damage.
The Silence: The best part? It is still 100% silent. The enemy won't even see the red mark on the mini-map. This is terrifying for rank pushers.
2. The P90 Nerf (Finally!)
The P90 in the airdrop was unfair. It had zero recoil and 50 bullets.
What Changed? The "Hip-Fire Spread" has been increased by 20%.
What this means: Earlier, you could jump and shoot accurately. Now, if you jump and shoot with a P90, your bullets will fly everywhere except at the enemy. You have to open the scope to be accurate now. This balances close-range fights.
3. DBS Shotgun: Is it Dead?
Not dead, but weaker. The effective range has been reduced.
Before: You could knock someone from 15 meters away.

My Recommendation for Loadout
Based on these changes, here is the best loadout for Erangel 4.2:
Primary: M416 or AUG (For sprays).
Secondary: Crossbow (With Gunpowder) OR S12K (For close range).
Why? The forests are dense. The Crossbow allows you to take down one enemy silently before the squad rushes you.
